I served with IIMEF 8th Communications Battalion, Alpha Company, Data Platoon, from 2004-2008. Because I had gone to photography school, I became the de facto photographer for the unit. When it came to training this afforded me a unique view and opportunity – often I would go through the training evolution with one group, then go through it again with the camera. I photographed everything from our battalion runs to promotions, Fallujah convoys and checkpoint duty to life working the “helpdesk” for Camp Fallujah (making sure networks, laptops, crypto and radios were in working order). Since I wasn’t in the combat camera MOS, I had no requirements and my photographs are my own and I made some of these slideshows in country and after.
