Conservatives: Doing the Work Establishment GOP Just Won’t Do

Defunding Obamacare, continuing resolution, government shutdown, the incompetence circus of the Obamacare launch.  The Fall rollercoaster on the Hill has been quite something to watch, and also very instructive.  We have learned just how spineless John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor and the other Senate Republicans really are.  We have learned that they will studiously ignore 70% of the American people who have been communicating their opposition to Obamacare through every means at their disposal.  We have seen that they care only for their own power and money, and nothing for the constituents they represent.  We have seen just how vicious they can become when that power, the Establishment status quo, is reminded that they do not rule the citizens, the sovereign American citizen grants them representative duties.  And we take them away, too.

cruz-vs-establishment-600Establishment Republicans can’t stand what Senator Ted Cruz did when he stood on the Senate floor and vigorously articulated the problems with Obamacare because it contrasted their own greed and cowardice so obviously. From its unconstitutionality, to the unfairness of exemptions and subsidies, to its negative impact on the economy and healthcare, and everyday Americans, Cruz made the conservative argument the whole Republican party should have been making.  Imagine if the rest of his party had done the same!  Imagine if they had spent as much time and energy supporting the man doing the right thing as they did attacking, undermining, and opposing him.  Imagine too, if they had spent as much time and energy working to persuade Democrats to vote with them to defund what Max Baucus (D-MT), the author, called the law: “a train wreck.”  Making the conservative case, it would hardly matter that the media is the Left’s propaganda machine.  They wouldn’t be able to contain it.  Cruz took the conservative message to the people, and many heard him. It was powerful, and the gutless Republicans hate that.

While trashing the Tea Party (which is to say everyday conservative-leaning Americans), the GOP amoebas keep telling that same group to deliver them the majority and then they will fight to stop Obamacare.  We all know that now that it’s in, it will be all but impossible to stop it.  The near-impossible is hardly the specialty of today’s GOP.  And what will they do when the inevitable argument comes that, yes, the whole thing is a catastrophe – the solution is a one-payer system?  Will they fight to open us to a free market solution instead?  No.  They don’t want to stop Obamacare.  They want to control it.  Obamacare is a cancer that needs to be cut out before it can spread, and the House did its Constitutional duty by using the power of the purse to deny funding.  The rest just showed us their utter cowardice and indifference to the will of the people and their own oath of office.  They wrapped themselves with blame for the shutdown long before it happened in order to point the finger at the real conservatives in the party.  But the real conservatives are not to blame for the shutdown any more than they’re responsible for Obamacare itself.  They are the ones doing the right thing, and the ones doing the wrong thing despise it.

Whatever the Boehners, McConnells, McCains and Jeb Bushes are saying, you can bet doing the opposite will put the country on the right track.  Jeb says we need to step back and cool it, so what we really need to do is bring the heat vigorously and constantly.  Remember that when they are telling you to cool it, they are saying cool the fight for liberty in the face of tyranny.  Cool your jets on the fight against Obamacare, the newest form of slavery.  HELL NO WE WON’T.

If you are a conservative and you’re not being attacked by liberals and squishy Republicans, you’re doing it wrong.  Winston Churchill was called a warmonger, among many other slurs, for opposing Hitler, while Neville Chamberlain was given hero’s praise for appeasing him.  Who would you rather have been?   Who will you be today?  So keep doing the work Establishment Republicans won’t do.  Keep bringing the heat against them.  Raise your voice.  Write your ink dry.  Call and email your reps and bug the hell out of them.  They are accountable to YOU.  And support people like Senators Cruz, Lee, and Rand Paul who are actually upholding their oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.  They’re leaving it all on the field to preserve liberty for all of us.  Thank them.

Unnecessarily Painful Shutdown

Letter to the Editor submitted to the Star News, the Brunswick Beacon and the State Port Pilot.

The bipartisan majority of Americans want Obamacare stopped, and the House is trying to do just that, yet Democrats won’t fund government without it. Nor will they budge as the House proposes bills to fund other essential government functions in the meantime. The fact that Obama went out of his way to close privately owned and operated war memorials shows his pettiness. The Democrats’ refusal to grant exemption to 200 child cancer patients participating in vital R&D shows their heartless indifference.  They won’t budge on making taxpayers subsidize their healthcare and giving exemptions to Big Business. Every day of the shutdown reveals their true elitist colors. Michelle’s boogie website is up while Amber Alert is down.  90-year-old veterans are threatened with arrest for visiting their memorials by otherwise absent staff.  This is not the party of compassion, it is the party of tyranny.  True to their roots, Democrats are still the party of slavery and Obamacare the newest form.  They are totally out of touch with the American people, the ones that Obamacare hurts most of all and who are stuck paying the bill. The people have been raising their voices against Obamacare, and the Democrats’ refusal to negotiate with the House is a refusal to listen to the people, on both sides of the isle, who hired them. We are citizens, not peasants living under feudalism, slaving for nobles and begging them for favor. Thank you to those reps holding the line against the party of slavery.

Senator Cruz’s “Make DC Listen” Filibuster Leaves RINOs in the Dust

Senator Ted Cruz will soon close in on twenty-four hours on the Senate floor in an effort to “Make D.C. Listen” to the American people and fulfilling this promise: “I will do everything necessary and anything possible to defund Obamacare.”  So many hours later, he is just as articulate and fired up as he was in the first hour, making the case against the “train wreck” bill which all Republicans should have been making long since.  Americans across the continent have been clamoring for this kind of leadership and representation.  Republicans across the country should be watching with pen and paper in hand.

In these many hours with no teleprompter and few notes, Senator Cruz stands firmly articulating the arguments to defund Obamacare.  Full-time hours forcibly cut to part-time hours, thousands of workers laid off because businesses can’t afford to cover their health insurance, the invasive role government will play by taking over health care, the denigration of quality of and access to health care, and much more.  He has made the case for a free-market alternative to Obamacare that would include interstate competition which would result in lowered costs, more choice for the individual and coverage for preconditions.

CruzSenator Cruz has told story after story of those already negatively impacted by Obamacare.  In an unprecedented move he has been reading “tweets” from Twitter from the hash tags #MakeDCListen and #StopObamacare, truly giving the American people a voice on the Senate floor.  The People want the Senate to vote against Cloture, a procedural motion that would facilitate efforts by Senator Harry Reid and others to strip the defunding language from the Continuing Resolution passed by the House.

With the majority of Americans now understanding the negative repercussions of Obamacare and everyone from the Unions to the Tea Party against it, you would think the GOP would take this golden opportunity to unite with this bipartisan support against a law most of them admit they know is terrible.  But no, Republicans in Name Only across America are showing their true colors.  They remain absent from the Senate floor and continue to work against the American people and the few men, Senator Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Mike Lee, who are truly representing us.

“If we listen to the people,” Senator Cruz said, “if we make D.C. listen, this wouldn’t be about party.  This wouldn’t be about Democrats sticking to the bill they passed, this wouldn’t be about Republicans afraid of political blame and repercussions.  This would be about a hundred senators listening to the people and saying ‘This bill isn’t working.’”

Senator Cruz’s leadership is truly inspirational.  As I write he is going head to head with Senator Dick Durbin, and you would think he’d just woken up from a full night’s rest, astute and fresh as a daisy.  Twitter and Facebook are inundated with notes in support of the Filibuster and defunding Obamacare, and many stayed up all night to watch the Senator in solidarity.  Thousands of citizens have been flooding their representatives’ phone lines and inboxes with calls and emails to vote NO on Cloture and to stand with Senator Cruz.  The People are speaking.  Will DC listen?

Engaged Citizens Making A Difference

NC7 DEFUND Obamacare Town Hall Packs The House

ObamacareTownHallNC7“Do we have more chairs?”  By ten to six Tuesday night at the New Hanover County Library, the Live Oak Room was already packed wall to wall.  Concerned citizens from several counties and both sides of the isle gathered to learn more about the negative impacts of Obamacare and the proposition to defund it that is being advocated in town halls across the country while Congress in on its summer break.

Lead by local conservative activists Jude Eden, Ginny Quaglia and Mary Ann McCarthy, the two-hour program consisted of seven speakers followed by Q&A.  Empty chairs were labeled for Mike McIntyre, Richard Burr, and Kay Hagan who were each invited but declined.  All have stated they are not holding any town halls while on recess.

“We can fund the government and we can fight funding Obamacare.  Don’t fall for the false choice,” said co-creator Mary Ann McCarthy.  “We’re here tonight to help you understand how crucial it is to defund this huge train wreck.”

Cardiologist, author, and radio talk show host Dr. Tony Maglione said Obamacare would hit the elder population first and hardest. “There are 7 million baby-boomers coming into the market of Medicare every year.  They’re going to have the IPAB, fifteen bureaucrats making decisions, which is going to try to control costs.  How are they going to do it?  They [seniors] are going to end up not having certain procedures, not paying for certain treatments, and that means you’re going to get delays and you’re going to suffer more, and some will die.”

Pattie Curran‘s testimony drew gasps from the audience as she gave example after example of how her family’s costs have skyrocketed, making it nearly impossible to provide her children, who suffer from serious chronic diseases, with the care they need.  OB/GYN and U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Greg Brannon focused on the statutes of Obamacare that violate the powers enumerated in the Constitution and infringe on our individual rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  “It prohibits discrimination of assisted suicide.  That’s attacking life.  Liberty?  With the individual mandate, where’s your right to say no?  Pursuit of happiness? Section 9001 is the list of all the taxes.”

Combat veteran and NC3 candidate Jason Thigpen reminded us of what veterans have to go through NOW under the government-run healthcare system that is the VA.  Picture the atrocious VA backlog, waiting 18 months on average for a claim, across the whole nation’s health care.  Francis De Luca, president of the NC Civitas Institute, explained the process of the continuing resolution, to which Ted Cruz’s defund bill must be attached, and explained the process by which we can ensure the government is funded without funding Obamacare.  He explained, “The government runs out of money at the end of September, so in order to continue funding you have to pass a continuing resolution which states which states how much government can continue spending without a budget.  All you do in the continuing resolution is say no money can be allocated to implement Obamacare or to write regulations.  Very simple.  So when people say you can’t do it, yes you can. Now, do you have the political courage?”

NCGOP chair Claude Pope talked about the negative impacts on small business such as reduced hours, layoffs, and more, as well as the NCGOP’s Resolution to Defund.  The Resolution recently passed unanimously in Boston.  He also spent some time advocating for Republican  majorities if constituents want to see the change they’re asking for.  This didn’t sit well with conservative talk show host Curtis Wright, who was in the audience and said, “The Republicans telling us that they have these rules we have to play with doesn’t cut it, because when these folks have to carry that burden and push that elephant up the hill, over the hill and over the line, they don’t’ forget that.  2014 and 2016 can’t be about a senator telling us, ‘Well, you don’t understand.’  In particular my frustration is with people like Renee Ellmers who told me over and over again, like many Republicans have, ‘This is what I will do.’ And then when they get there, they don’t do it.  We have to have more than just political speech.”

Many Republicans say they will fight for principle when they have the majority.  This is backwards.  If they fight for conservative principles, they will earn the majority.  With an overwhelming majority of the country opposing Obamacare, Republicans should be persuading those Democrats who also oppose it, including its author, Senator Max Baucus) to help vote to Defund what they themselves have called a train-wreck and a disaster.

Attendees left the meeting armed with facts on Obamacare and the defunding process, and empowered to contact their representatives.  “Each of us is sovereign, every single one of us, our vote and our voice,” said emcee Jude Eden. “Whatever is going on in our country is our responsibility.  It’s our responsibility to speak up when something’s wrong, it’s our responsibility to hold our representatives accountable.”  Hundreds of self-addressed postcards to Senator Hagan, Senator Burr & Congressman McIntyre were snatched up in no time and everyone wanted to contact their representatives to urge them to do more than simply say they’re against Obamacare.  Constituents want the representatives to SIGN the Meadows and Lee letters to GOP leadership to DEFUND through CR and to co-sponsor the Cruz/Graves Defund Bill.

The Wilmington Town Hall was one of many happening around the country aimed at defunding Obamacare.

NC7 Grassroots To Hold Obamacare Town Hall August 27

For citizens concerned with the direction of our political policies, the August Congressional recess is a great opportunity to talk to representatives at home.  But what do you do when your representatives refuse to speak to their constituents?  Such is the case in North Carolina where Mike McIntyre, Kay Hagan and Richard Burr have all said they are not holding any town halls while on recess.  They have each claimed that they will have other opportunities to speak to those they serve, yet they will not disclose what those opportunities are.  Now we are half-way through the August recess and our North Carolina representatives are still MIA.

Obama-Care-Skull-Source-Google-Public-DomainOne of the hottest topics we’d like to discuss with them is Obamacare.  This wildly unpopular and unconstitutional law is meeting with overwhelming bipartisan opposition.  The unions and Democrats are catching up with the rest of America who have objected to government-run healthcare from the get-go.  As I wrote earlier this month, Obamacare is “vastly more expensive than we were told; it doesn’t cover more people; it puts more restrictions and regulations on care givers; and rather than reducing the costs of healthcare, it vastly increases the costs while vastly reducing the quality and timeliness of care.”

Having passed the “Affordable Care Act” without reading it, Washington and America alike are discovering all of the above.  Now we are left with one option – defunding.  Yet representatives on both sides of the isle, including Republicans who voted for repeal, seem determined to let it pass unobstructed.  Senator Burr called defunding Obamacare “the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard of,” claiming, wrongly, that Conservatives are threatening to shut down the government over it.  This is a big, fat, red herring.  Defunding Obamacare needs not affect military pay, social security, etc.  But Burr himself is not short on dumb ideas: he has been the epitome of the RINO (Republican in name only), voting to proceed on Harry Reid’s gun control legislation in April, signing onto the Gang of 8’s Amnesty bill, not to mention watching the VA backlog expand exponentially under his watch as a ranking member of the VA.

Meanwhile on the other side of the isle Mike McIntyre is hosting the North Carolina Business and Economic Development Summit in September while ignoring the biggest negative impact to businesses, the new healthcare law.  He himself voted against Obamacare, though he had nothing to lose by it since by the time he voted there were already enough votes to pass.  Even so, defunding Obamacare would help both healthcare and the economy, both of which would be benefits for which he could take credit if he got on board to defund.  And at the moment comrade Hagan is supporting Amnesty for illegal aliens, opposing Voter ID, and working on lowering student interest rates.

These representatives, who, along with their staffs, will be free of the Obamacare burden as they’re either granted waivers of exemption or the government subsidizes about 70%, are ignoring the very people who are paying for Obamacare and will feel its ill effects the most.  This is prompting everyday citizens all across the country to stand up and make their voices heard.

HOLD CONGRESS ACCOUNTABLE

DontFundItDefund Obamacare town halls are popping up all over the place, including here in Wilmington on Tuesday, August 27th from 6-8pm at the New Hanover County Library NE, Live Oak Room.  Though invited via all formats with plenty of notice, McIntyre, Hagan and Burr have all refused.  That’s par for the course.  We will proceed without them and hold them to account.  Anyone in North Carolina who does not sign on to defund Obamacare is putting their political career in jeopardy, leaving the rest of us to hang.

We have an excellent lineup of speakers:  Dr. Tony Maglione, M.D. is a cardiologist, who trained at the Cleveland clinic and has been a physician for over 33 years. He authored two books, Obamacare and How to Vote to Save This Country and is a local talk radio host on 106.7 FM discussing healthcare and political issues.  Dr. Greg Brannon, OBGYN with 18 years experience, and is running for senate.  Both doctors will share their first-hand knowledge of the negative impacts they are already seeing with the implementation of Obamacare.  Pattie Curran, whose chronically ill children require special and constant care, has a compelling story showing the brutal reality of what her family is facing under this law.  Jason Thigpen, whose credentials include the NHC Veterans Council, NC Military and Veterans Council, the Student Veterans Advocacy Group and Disabled American Veterans, will speak to the special impact of Obamacare on veterans and military members.  We also have Francis De Luca, president of the Civitas Institute, which advocates liberty, prosperity, personality responsibility, and the implementation of Conservative principles in North Carolina.  Finally, Claude Pope, entrepreneur and Chair of the NC GOP will discuss the NC GOP’s Resolution to Defund Obamacare.

This Town Hall will be both educational and empowering as we close in on the last opportunity to avoid this catastrophic law.  See you there!

Gun Control 2.0: You’re Crazy ‘Cause I Said So, Now Hand Over Your Guns

Bloomberg reports today that in California they are seizing guns from formerly legal gun owners who no longer qualify to own them because of criminal charges or commitment to a mental hospital.  Taking guns from criminals? Good.  Taking guns from the mentally ill and unstable?  Also good, since they make up 99.9% of those who have committed mass murder with guns in the United States.  But with a government that is pushing for increasing measures to disarm citizens and Obamacare in control of medicine, how long before the sane gun-owning citizens are deemed mentally unstable in the name of gun control?

According to the article, Lynette Phillips was the subject of such a gun seizure due to a two-day involuntary commitment to a mental hospital.  The alarming part is her assertion that, “the nurse who admitted her had exaggerated the magnitude of her condition.”  Now, we don’t know the circumstances, why she was thought to be crazy or what behavior made the nurse think Phillips should be committed.  And of course, the crazy don’t think they’re crazy.  If one is involuntarily committed, one has an opportunity to contest the decision before a judge, but it is permanently on the record.  But this raises an important question because judgments on another person’s sanity are made by individuals – fallible, subjective humans.  Those individuals make a determination nearly impossible to disprove that now affects one’s Constitutional right to own a firearm.

Under Obamacare doctors, nurses and other medical staff are no longer beholden to their patients, they are beholden to The State.  It holds the taxpayer-funded purse that allocates budgets and it controls the standards and directives by which medical staff and facilities must operate.  If doctors and nurses answer to the State, and the State wants to enact gun control, what’s to stop them from dictating judgments of insanity for those they want to disarm?  A doctor’s job, a hospital’s budget might depend on compliance with, for example, a new directive on what behavior indicates insanity or potential future violence.  Do you oppose this Administration’s policies?  You may be hostile.  You may be a danger to yourself or others.  The Administration certainly thinks so, and now they write the doctor’s checks.

The idea of a doctor asking a patient the question “Are there any guns in your house?” was raised after the Sandy Hook massacre when Obama proposed 23 executive orders to limit the use of guns.  Of these order 16 states, “…the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes,” and according to the White House fact sheet on the orders, “…no federal law prevents health care providers from warning law enforcement authorities about threats of violence.”  Obama wants doctors to be able to get information on the firearms one owns, and under Obamacare he also controls the staff who diagnose things like mental stability and illness.

We know that gun ownership and conservative values overlap heavily across the United States.  With the help and compliance of the mass media this Administration has tried to defame and marginalize anyone who opposes its policies and doesn’t agree with its ideology. We also know whom the government deems to be a threat – the new Enemy of the People.  It’s not Islamic terrorists who scream “Allahu Akhbar” as they murder innocent civilians. Those are the justified “freedom fighters” of the “religion of peace.”  Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland “Security” has said that all returning Veterans are potential terrorists, that those who are against aborting babies are extremists, and we all know how they characterize the Tea Party in particular and conservatives in general.  Now they have ubiquitous control over the medical staff to dole out judgments of insanity.  What better way to further nullify your enemy than to declare them crazy – one gun-clinger at a time?

Let Them Eat Tires

SCOTUS shows its two faces today in its ruling that although the individual mandate is unconstitutional, individuals will be taxed if they don’t buy medical insurance.  Thus nullifying the unconstitutionality of the individual mandate, we’ll be punished if we don’t buy.  Similarly, New York kept mum in the face of Nanny Bloomberg’s tyrannical dictates on the size of soft drink one can buy.  Next to come, banning popcorn, candy…you name it.

While some are happy with this type of government regulation over the intricacies of our lives, few on the pro-Obamacare side see that if the government can outlaw sugar, it can outlaw health food.  All that has to happen is for some data to come out that health food is bad for you and bammo – outlawed by ninnies like Bloomberg.

If you give the government the power to penalize or prevent you from getting something they consider bad for you, they can do the same for things that are good for you.  That’s why we don’t want to grant the bureaucracy that power – they are not capable of deciding what’s best for anyone let alone everyone.  Rather than seeing us as individuals with different makeups, we are seen as plebes that need to be controlled, all our decisions made for us.

What if a bunch of scientific data came out saying that meat was essential to the human diet?  No freedom to decide if you want to be vegetarian or not.  You’d be required to eat meat or your health care costs would go up.  Vegetarians and vegans would be out of luck, unfree to act according to their wills and consciences.  What if data suddenly came out and said you must consume a certain amount of sugar instead of that you aren’t allowed to consume it?  Hypoglycemics would be all set, diabetics would be…dead.

If the government has the power to require you to buy health care, be it through individual mandate or the threat of taxation for non-compliance, they can require you to buy anything.  How would the anti-gun lobbyists like it if the government required every citizen to buy a gun?  How would the environmentalists like it if they were required to buy nuclear waste?  What if avid recyclers were required to buy tires?  Congress and SCOTUS have given government the power to do just that.  And there are morons out there celebrating that decision today.

I was glad to hear Romney come out so strongly against Obamacare once more today as the SCOTUS decision came out.  We must kick this president out and repeal this dictatorial law!
